Local Rag-Attracting Global Attention
What started out as a local rag has become a global attention grabber
Toronto (ON)- What started out as a local magazine for women in the GTA area has grown into an international attention grabber. Conversations across the globe are talking about Main Street Magazine by founder Tilly Rivers.
Since Main Street began in April of 2009, there have been several magazines with the same name hanging onto the coat tails of Ms. Rivers’ success. “No worries,” quotes Ms. Rivers “the Universe has enough love, space and abundance for all of us.”
The magazine, in one short year has proven to be the magazine forward thinking, professional and hip, or is that now considered ‘kewel’ (showing my age?) women are reading. Articles cover everything from Chefs to books, music to new age. “Main Street Magazine” Rivers says is as multi-dimensional as women themselves, we are not just mothers, or care takers, professional s or stay-at-home moms, we are that and more, we are vibrant, beautiful, sexual beings who care of our families, have great careers, are capable of being great in the bed room, and out, while having conversations about art, music, books or crafts-all while cooking dinner. Why shouldn’t a magazine offer a variety of subjects and not be logged into one or two categories?”
It seems that Main Street fever has hit, as not only are the readers flocking globally but the magazine has caught the attention of laymen and celebrity alike. So is it the founder that has the weight and influence for the readers and potential interviewers?
“While my ego would like to think so” Tilly says, “I think it is simply that women have been waiting for a magazine that they can sink their teeth into.” She smiles, “I am always thankful for the support from my fans, they are, as usual: great!”
MSM as it is dubbed is ran by editor Chris Reynolds, Tilly’s niece. Working with family can be tough, but Rivers says Chris is great to work with and has been a god-send. “She readily admits she is mildly OCD, which is a great quality when you have so many deadlines and activities bouncing around. She is a great asset to the magazine, as are all of the contributors .”
MSM has brought in some pretty heavy duty talent, from regular writers each month to guest writers. Lily’s Garden, and Main Street Music Scene have show cased some serious celebrity names. Not bad for a baby magazine.
Rivers, best known for her erotica writings, writes two columns for MSM herself, Chef of Merit, which has caught the attention of the culinary elite, and the main feature, which so far has featured authors. So how does one go from erotica to main stream?
“I wrote major food reviews for IRM magazine, and it was fun, and it just naturally progressed from there.”
Tilly certainly is living the dream, she has been on many best-sellers lists for a variety of her books, has become a world renowned celebrity writer, dabbled in modeling, former radio host, owner of Rain Enterprises and now the guiding light for what has become a successful magazine. How does she do it?
“One small step every day.” She says. “I just want what I want, and do not let the nah-sayers or negative people stop me. If it does not work, so what, I tried, and there is nothing more exciting then breathing life into your dreams!”
What’s new on the horizon?
“I have a few projects on the go that I want to finish before I begin anything else.”
Those projects of course are her new book releases, finishing her law course, and the daily operations of Rain Enterprises. Plus, there seems to be a rumour that she is recently engaged.
Tilly smiles, “No comment.”
Ah, the no comment stand by that celebrities love so much!
